Now that I'm out of school I really do miss it. I don't miss the school work, no one ever does. I don't miss my friends too much, I can stay in touch with who I want. What I do miss is hustling my parents into buying me clothes each and every August/September.

Today was the day that at 6 years old my mom let me stay home from school and we went and watched Empire Strikes Back. I remember that whole day like it was yesterday. I really didn't sleep the night before so at 7 am I was wide awake and waiting for that 12:00pm showing. There was another major event happening the news that day too. Mt. Saint Helen's in Washington St. had just been shook by a 5.1 earthquake that woke up the sleeping volcano setting off gigantic explosions and eruptions of steam, ash and rock debris. The blast was heard hundreds of miles away, the pressure wave flattened entire forests, the heat melted glaciers and set off destructive mudflows.

I remember people in line (which was hella long) talking about the volcano and Star Wars. It wasn't so (Fanboy-ish) as it is now but there was still people in Star Wars shirts and a few people dressed up. After waiting for what seemed like FOREVER we were finally let in and grabbed our seats.

Even to this day when I hear that music for the 20th Century Fox opening and see the Lucas Films logo pop up followed by the immortal " A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" I still get chills. Empire Strikes back is by far the best movie in the saga without a doubt. It has everything that makes a movie great, action, suspense, (Boba Fett) love story, a amazing score (thank you John Williams) despair, inspiration (Yoda) and of course one the most unexpected moments in a movie "No, I am your father."

Sorry to nerd out but I can't help. Its The Empires Strikes back 30th Anniversary and I'm fucking stoked.

This is not an attempt to pat ourselves on the back and massage our own moral compass in any way shape or form. If you have ever driven down to "skid row" in Downtown Los Angeles you are exposed to the not so sunny side of LA. Its very real life down here and at times be a little scary. You will have at least two or three WTF? moments a week. But at the end of the day its just about human beings who were dealt a raw deal from life at some point and now are just trying to survive  one day at a time.

The Los Angeles Mission is a non-profit, privately supported, faith-based organization established to serve the immediate and long-term needs of homeless and disadvantaged men, women and children. The LA Mission has been contributing to the community since 1936 when it first opened up.

Today Ivan Klassen from the LA Mission came by today to pick up some shoes that we donated to the mission. It wasn't a lot of shoes but as Ivan said, anything helps. I can't lie and said it didn't feel good for the crew to know that we did a little part to help out individuals and families.
